UNIVERSITY 4, PARKERSBURG SOUTH 0
PARKERSBURG — The Hawks (10-0-2) finished off their third straight undefeated Ohio Valley Athletic Conference regular season by beating the Patriots (7-4-1).
Ari Christiansen started the scoring, knocking home a rebound off a Braden Pickett shot with less than two minutes left in the opening half.
The Hawks dominated the second period, with Pickett scoring off a Leah Marsh corner kick, then firing a shot low to the far corner of the Patriots’ net after controlling a Christiansen header.
Keely Hinkle rounded out the scoring, taking a pass from Christiansen and slotting the ball past the keeper on the near side.
Maya Shetty made six saves in the UHS net, including one acrobatic catch late in the game to preserve the Hawks’ ninth shutout of the season.
“I’m really proud of how our girls stepped up their game tonight,” UHS co-coach Graham Peace said. “This is a very difficult place to come and play, and Park South is always well-prepared, but Braden was a force tonight, and we won the midfield battle. The defense also did an excellent job of containing Park South’s offense.”
The Hawks next play at Hedgesville, on Sept. 23, before OVAC semifinals start next week.
