PARKERSBURG –Behind Broedy Boyce’s four goals and four assists, the Ripley Vikings cruised to an 11-0 Tuesday night win over Parkersburg South at the Erickson All-Sports Facility. In total, Ripley took 37 shots with a large portion of them being on-goal. With that said, the goals came in bunches. Kai Greely-Fay kicked off the scoring, as Boyce found him on the left baseline for the first score of the contest. A minute later, Noah Kessel broke away from the South defense off a feed from Elijah Ross to quickly double the tally. Boyce scored his first two goals in the 13th and 22nd minutes, respectively, and he kept threatening for a first half hat trick throughout the remainder of those first 40 minutes. However, South’s defense held the score to 4-0 at the half. While the Vikings controlled the tempo in most of that first 40, head coach Tim Ross wanted to see a cleaner half of soccer from his players. “I think probably, they knew I was so mad about the way they played in the first half,” Ross said of how adjustments had to be made going into the last 40 minutes. “They knew they needed to pick it up and play to what their potential is.” That’s exactly what they did, en-route to a seven-goal second half. South keeper Jared Davis held strong in the first minutes of half number two, until the numbers game once again swarmed the box. Goals from Ian Gainey in the 45th minute and Ross in the 57th minute cut Davis’s night short, as Garret Lewis relieved him to no avail. Together the two tallied 16 saves, as head coach Jamie Whitlach was complimentary of his freshman keeper’s effort through the continued adversity he faced. “Jared had some really good saves. He stepped in there,” Whitlach said. “No one wants to get kicked in the face, but he stepped in there. He’s trial by fire.” Two goals apiece from Boyce and Gainey paired well with one from Jacob Harvey, as all that accounted for the remainder of the scoring for the Vikings. In total, all but one of those goals were assisted, and that speaks to Ripley’s willingness to spread the ball around. “What I saw were open people to pass the ball to,” Boyce said of the team effort. “I made runs for people to pass me the ball, and I found a way to find the back of the net. We’ve been working on it all season, might as well show off now.” Parkersburg South (1-16) has a Thursday night game at John Marshall with plenty for their young squad to work on, while Ripley (6-6-2) tries to keep pace with the rest of the field. They have a Thursday night date at home against Riverside.
